There are currently 249,612 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Vanni out of a total population of approximately 500,000 persons	On 31 August 2008 the Sri Lanka Army Shelled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) that TRO had provided assistance to earlier in the week.
