I'm a social worker working at a human rights NGO in Thailand. My hope is to bring awareness to the Tamil ethnic minority fighting for self-determination in Sri Lanka who is being targeted in a genocidal war by the Sri Lankan government. Since I left Northern Sri Lanka in 2006 after volunteering for a human rights organization for one year, friends and familiar faces have been killed by the Sri Lankan government. I don't want this to continue and want the international community to know that Tamil people's human rights are being violated every minute. By fasting, I hope to represent at least a fraction of the suffering that Tamils are experiencing today and motivate more people to take action by speaking to their elected officials about the Tamils' plight.
