URGENT: Call Congress NOW!

Representatives Jan Schakowsky and James McGovern are urging Secretary Clinton to call for an independent international investigation into alleged war crimes during Sri Lanka's civil war.

Call your House of Representatives member today and ask them to sign onto this letter to Secretary Clinton. This letter is a very exciting development and will close this Thursday, August 5, so call your Representative ASAP! Our goal is to get at least 50 Representatives to sign this letter.

Calling your Representative is easy and takes only a few minutes.

1.Find your Representative (not Senator!) and his/her D.C. phone number by putting in your zip code here.
2. Tell them your name, that you are a constituent in the Representative's district and that you are calling on behalf of People for Equality and Relief in Lanka (PEARL) regarding Sri Lanka.
3. Ask to speak to the Foreign Affairs Legislative Aide.
4. Tell the aide (or his/her voicemail) your name, that you are a constituent in the Representative's district and that you are calling on behalf of People for Equality and Relief in Lanka (PEARL).
5. Tell the aide that you want your Representative to sign Reps. Schakowsky and McGovern's letter to Secretary Clinton requesting an independent international investigation into war crimes in Sri Lanka. Explain that human rights organizations have already affirmed that, without an impartial and independent investigation, peace and justice cannot be achieved in Sri Lanka. Tell the aide that over 40 Representatives have already signed this letter!
6. Ask the aide for his/her email so you can email him/her Reps. Schakowsky and McGovern's letter to Secretary Clinton, as well as their letter calling on their colleagues to investigate Sri Lanka's war crimes. (You can download the two letters in pdf format here and here.)
7. Let us know that you called here so we can follow-up with your Representative.

Your calls are the most important way to ensure that the U.S. supports an effective and fair war crimes investigation. Please urge your family and friends to call their Representatives as well. Thanks for promptly calling your Representative!
