Your support is needed
December 27, 2011 Remembering the Tsunami As we open carefully-wrapped gifts and reunite with our loved ones, PEARL would also like to remember those who lost families in the Southeast Asian tsunami 7 years ago. Hundreds of thousands of families were destroyed between dangerous waves and unforgiving winds. Desperately clinging to branches, mothers were forced to choose which child they could save. Infants were effortlessly swept away in the receding waves. And yet, amongst such destruction and devastation, the world discovered its humanity and gave generously to the people of Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Sadly, in the case of Sri Lanka, much of the international community’s generosity was taken advantage of, as heartfelt donations ended up in the pockets of corrupt Sri Lankan officials. The lack of transparency and accountability is a discouraging story heard time and time again. PEARL is committed to breaking the cycle so that marginalized communities in Sri Lanka can finally access justice. As the year ends, we would like to thank you for your continued support and dedication to our work. This work could never be possible without your enthusiasm and energy. We hope that you will consider making a tax-deductible donation before the end of the year so that the work can continue and we can access peace and justice for Tamils in Sri Lanka. |
